The wheel of the year is such a passion of mine. I love sharing rituals with others as we acknowledge the changing seasons and what that means for us and the shifts and changes in our lives. I have discussed the concept of creating a local wheel of the year in my book Australian Druidry: Connecting with the Sacred Landscape and I’m passionate that everyone can work to develop a wheel that suits the place where they live, and the important shifts and changes through the year that are important to them.

Every place in this world is different and has a unique story to tell. As Australian Druids, we are inspired by the seasonal celebrations of Britain and the Wheel of the Year as it is practiced in modern Druidry there, but where we live is a different land, with much localised diversity. If you’re interested in reading more about how to create your own local wheel of the year, I highly suggest taking a look at that book of mine.

I have also created a few podcasts that discuss the wheel of the year, where I looked at the seasons and shared what I was experiencing here in my new home in the Blue Mountains. Australian Druidry was written when I lived on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, but I have lived in the Blue Mountains now for a few years. I am gradually working my way towards a local wheel for here, so you can hear what my process is like. Some of these are from a few years ago but I think they remain relevant. Here are some links to the episodes:

Summer Solstice

Lughnassadh

Autumn Equinox

Samhain

Winter Solstice

Imbolc

Spring Equinox

Beltane

Please be aware some of these are from as long ago as 2016 so the events mentioned are from a long time ago. I hope that the seasonal discussions are interesting to you, and the stories of the events that we have held, even if the events are long gone. I really hope that these talks inspire you to create a wheel of the year for where you live, as every place has a special story to tell.

The Blue Mountains Seed Group meets for the seasonal festivals eight times a year in Katoomba and we welcome new people to join us. You can find out about our events for the wheel of the year here.
